Exotic Pet Services

At the Atlantic Veterinary Clinic we see a variety of patients including exotic and pocket pets for their basic medical needs.

Birds and other exotic pets tend to hide signs of illness until they become life threatening emergencies. Routine examination and laboratory testing can help with the detection of certain infectious and metabolic diseases in the early stages before they become serious illnesses, just as they can for other companion animals. Annual examination and preventative health care are recommended to help your pet live a long and healthy life.

In House and External Lab Services include:

  • Annual Wellness Checks
  • Complete Blood and Biochemical profiles
  • DNA Sexing
  • Surgical procedures
  • Histopathological and Cytological services
  • Cultures
  • Infectious Disease Testing
  • Internal and external parasite checks
  • Radiology
  • Ultrasound

Dental and Surgical

An estimated 85% of dogs and cats have some form of periodontal disease. Pets can experience everything from pain to bad breath. Chronic infections of the teeth and gums can cause problems elsewhere in the body including the liver, kidneys, heart and lungs. Good dental care lengthens a pet's life an average of 10-20% through the prevention of these secondary problems.

Animals may have signs of oral/dental disease such as halitosis (bad breath), drooling, pawing at the face or mouth, swelling of the face, gum recession, gum swelling, loose teeth, listlessness, dropping food and reluctance to eat even though they are hungry.

We offer comprehensive dental care to help prevent these problems before they start.

  • Pre-surgery examination
  • Pre-Anesthetic Blood Profiles
  • IV Catheter
  • Surgical monitoring (up to 7 parameters)
  • Laser sugery
  • Post Operative Pain Medications
